Do I need to set note titles manually?

The title field is optional. If you save with an empty title, a title is automatically generated by AI from the body on save (available on all plans, for both notes and books). If generation is unavailable, the first 30 characters of the body are shown as a display-only fallback in lists (the stored title stays empty). You can also enter a title manually or trigger title generation on demand from the AI action button in the note editor.When you run it from the AI actions menu, a confirmation is shown before the content is sent.

How do I extract text from a file or image?

Open the AI actions menu in the note editor and select "Extract text from file". You can choose a photo from your camera or gallery, or import from PDF, Word, and Excel files. The extracted text can be added to the note with "Append to note" on the result screen; it is appended to the end of the body after a horizontal rule.

Can I insert an AI summary into the note body?

Yes. Press "Append to note" on the result screen for summaries, URL summaries, and text extraction (OCR), and the result is appended to the end of the body. If the note already has text, a horizontal rule is inserted first; in an empty note the result goes in as is. The cursor is left at the end, so you can keep writing in your own words.

For URL summaries, the URL is also added to the reference URLs. Text read from images or PDFs is inserted as a quote, so "#" or "-" in the original material does not turn into headings or bullet lists.

You can do the same from past results via the 🧠 button and "Where this note came from". To revert, press undo (↩) in the toolbar once.

Can I add images to a memo?

Yes. Choose "Image" from the toolbar insert menu (+), or paste a copied image into the body. Images are embedded inline, stored in the cloud, and synced to all your devices, so sign-in is required (max 10 MB per image). Images are not available in local mode (without sign-in).

Can I attach files to a memo?

Yes. Open the Attachments tab in the memo editor and choose Add file to keep any file alongside the memo. While you are editing the body you can also use the paper clip in the toolbar's insert group (⊞). On the web you can also drag and drop files onto the editor. Attachments are stored in the cloud and synced to all your devices, so you need to be signed in (they are not available in local mode). This is separate from embedding images in the body: attachments keep the original file as it is.

Are there limits on attachment size or count?

Up to 25MB per file and around 10 files per memo. Almost any file type is accepted, but executables and installers are not. On protected memos the limit is 8MB per file, because the file is encrypted on your device first.

Do attachments require a paid plan?

No. Attachments are available on the free plan, with no difference between plans.

How are attachments on protected memos handled?

The file contents and the file name are encrypted on your device before being stored. Opening one decrypts it on your device, so an internet connection is required (offline you can see the list but cannot open them). Moving the memo back out of the protected area stores the file again without encryption.

Does AI understand images pasted into my memos?

Yes. When you save a memo, AI reads the images you just pasted and records the text they contain and what they show. Chat and quiz generation then take that content into account.

Only newly pasted images are analyzed — images already present in existing memos are not. This analysis does not count toward your AI usage.

Can I enter memos by voice?

Yes. While editing the memo body, tap the microphone button on the toolbar and speak — the recognized text is inserted at the cursor position. Tap again to stop (it also stops automatically after a period of silence). Recognition is performed by your device's (OS) speech recognition. The app never stores your audio or sends it to our own servers, but OS speech recognition does not always run entirely on the device: depending on your device and its settings, the audio may be sent to the OS vendor's servers. Microphone access is required the first time. If you chose “Don’t Allow”, grant it again in your device’s Settings app — tapping the microphone button shows a shortcut to that screen. The web version works in Chrome, Edge and Safari (it uses the browser’s own speech recognition, so what you say may be sent to the browser vendor’s servers).

What should I do with notes I do not want AI to read?

Put them in "Protected Notes." Open the menu on a note in the list and choose "Make protected."

Notes kept there are never sent to AI. They are not used for chat answers, for links between notes, or for learning questions, and they do not appear in your regular note list or search. When stored in the cloud, the body, title, and tags are encrypted.

Note that content already sent to AI before you protected the note cannot be recalled. Protecting a note also removes its links to other notes.

Are protected notes safe if I lose my device?

The safety of the device itself rests on your device lock and its own encryption.

Protected notes are encrypted when stored in the cloud, but on your device they are stored unencrypted, just like any other note. This is what allows you to read them offline.

So please always keep a lock (passcode or biometrics) on your device. What "protected" covers is two things: what is stored in the cloud, and never being sent to AI.

Can the people who run Clone+ read my protected notes?

Technically, yes. We would rather say so plainly.

Reading the contents requires a specific key operation, and that operation leaves a record we cannot erase. Who did it, and when, remains on file.

We do not access your notes except where required by law or where unavoidable in responding to a malfunction. For details, see "4.3 Storage of Protected Notes" in the Privacy Policy.

Note that protected notes are never sent to AI. That is a separate matter from access by the operators: they are simply not transmitted.

What happens when I put a tag on a protected note?

They work just like tags on regular notes. They appear in the tag list, and following a tag shows them alongside your regular notes. Protected notes carry a lock mark so you can tell them apart.

You can also narrow down by tag using the search inside the protected notes list.

Adding a tag does not send the note to AI. The rule for protected notes is unchanged.

Why can I not insert images or use voice input in protected notes?

In both cases, the content could leave your device or the encryption behind.

Images are stored separately from the body, so the encryption applied to the body does not cover them.

Voice input is available only where the device can transcribe entirely on its own (iPhone and iPad). It is not available on Android or in browsers, because what you say could be sent off the device.

AI title generation, AI features, and related-note suggestions are also unavailable, since they all send the body to AI.

What's the difference between Pin, Archive, and Trash?

• Pin: Keeps the note at the top of your list
• Archive: Hides the note from the main list but keeps it stored. You can restore it anytime from the Archive screen
• Trash: Automatically deleted after the retention period (default 30 days)

If the app closes while I'm typing, will I lose what I wrote?

What you type is automatically backed up on your device every few seconds. If the app closes unexpectedly, you'll be asked whether to restore the draft the next time you open the editor. Drafts are stored only on your device and are removed once you save or discard them (up to 20 drafts, kept for 14 days).
